TIMERGARA: The Timergara tehsil municipal administration on Tuesday launched a weeklong sports gala in order to engage youth in healthy activities.

Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Atta-ur-Rehman opened the event after a colourful function held at the Government College of Commerce and Management Sciences, Talash.

Besides elders, youth, players and political activists, Lower Dir Naib Nazim Abdul Rashid, Timergara Tehsil Nazim Riaz Mohammad, Assistant Commissioner, Timergara, Ashfaq Ahmad, district sports’ officer Haji Bahadar Syed and TMO Attaullah Khan were present on the occasion.

School students presented na’at, songs and PT show at the sports gala, which will also feature games like football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war and kabaddi. Several sports clubs have been registered to take part in the games.

Speaking on the occasion, tehsil nazim Riaz Mohammad said the TMA had arranged the event to engage youth in positive and healthy activities.

He said some of the games would be played on the ground of the Talash college, while rest of the matches would be played in Timergara.

The nazim said the administration had planned to arrange such events in other areas of the tehsil.

The deputy commissioner asked the youth to take active part in games and other positive competitions.

He said sports were vital for youth’s development and keeping them away from negative activities.

Naib nazim Abdul Rashid stressed upon youth to focus on their career building and gain the knowledge of science and technology so they could work for nation-building.

The duration of the sports gala, according to the organisers, could be extended if it was not concluded during the stipulated timeframe.
