Dr Muhammad Shahid Farid has been awarded a US and a European patent for his work in image processing. His US patent titled, “Method and Device for Edge Shape Enforcement for Visual Enhancement of Depth Image Based Rendering of a Three-Dimensional Video Stream,” was awarded on his research work on 3-D television. Speaking at a ceremony here on Thursday, Prof Malik said: “Organisations are in need for quick, usable intelligence to drive their business needs, such as market research and customer perception. Currently, a data analyst analyses data such as consumer reviews, product reviews, and marketing data to generate reports manually. Our invention is an interactive reporting system based on the processing of natural language, such as English, to automatically develop all reports that a data analyst usually generates manually.”

PUCIT Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar said it was the only IT institution of higher education in the country whose faculty members had been awarded three European and US patents. He said the PUCIT was already considered an institution of choice in the country for computing and IT education at the undergraduate level with acceptance rate of less than 5 per cent.

“The focus now is to improve its undergraduate education, hone entrepreneurial talents of the college students and graduates, and establish footprint in cutting edge research.”
