LAHORE: Former caretaker prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and his cousin Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, ex-chief minister of Punjab, will appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials in the city on Monday (today) in a case for possessing assets beyond their known sources of income.

The anti-corruption watchdog had issued notices to the Pakistan Muslim League-Q leaders last week directing them to appear before its investigators in Lahore along with details of their assets.

The case pertains to misuse of authority and amassing Rs2.428 billion registered against them back in 2000 before they joined hands with former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

The corruption case against Chaudhrys of Gujrat is among the 179 corruption scandals whose list was compiled by NAB and submitted to the Supreme Court in July 2015.

The information was submitted before a three-judge Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja. The bench had asked for a comprehensive report while deploring that the bureau was not investigating mega scandals and instead wasting its resources and energy on petty matters.

The case against the PML-Q leaders has been reopened at a time when the anti-graft body has filed references against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his family besides investigating other high-profile scandals.
