KARACHI: The Customs officials conducted a raid in Mobile Market, Saddar, and recovered mobile phones and tablets worth millions of rupees that were illegally cleared by an importer though Green Channel facility by mis-declaration.

On the directives of the chief collector of Customs (en­for­ce­ment) South, Kara­chi, the collector of Customs (preventive), Karachi constituted a team to foil the attempt.

The team after strict vigilance intercepted a 40-foot container load­ed on a trailer truck near Mobile Market on Wednes­day morning.

The officials found a huge quantity of mobile phones brought into the country without payment of duty/taxes. The container was confiscated and goods valued at Rs284 million, approximately, were recovered and seized.

An FIR (No. 226/2017 ASO) of the case has been registered.
