Rules for BoMs to be notified soon

LAHORE, Aug 25: Rules for the boards of management of autonomous medical and health institutions will be notified soon after the arrival of the Punjab chief minister from his foreign tour.

This was stated by Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed while talking to reporters at University of Education here on Monday. He said new rules would ensure increased role of the health department in the functioning of autonomous health institutions.

The minister said that he would also ensure that only the health secretary or an additional health secretary should attend the BoM meeting.

Replying a question, he said the BoMs non-official members’ job was of volunteer nature and they would neither be given perks and privileges nor office in the institutions. “The non-official members will not be required to visit the hospitals as it is not a wholetime job,” he said.

To another question about the resignation tendered by Lahore General Hospital’s BoM chairman Pervez Masud, the minister said the resignation had yet not been accepted. “I’ve got only an information about the resignation, but Mr Masud has yet not approached him. I’ll, however, contact him to know about the exact situation,” he added.
