PESHAWAR, Aug 25: The government employees serving in district departments have not been getting conveyance allowance, though their counterparts in provincial departments are getting it, an official said.

According to a notification of revision of pay scale by the federal government on Oct 27, 2001, all the employees from BPS-1 to BPS-10 are entitled to get Rs170 per month as conveyance allowance while the employees from BPS-11 to BPS-20 are eligible to draw Rs340 with their monthly pay.

The government servants from BPS-1 to BPS-10 who maintain motorcycles are entitled to receive Rs230 per month and those from BPS-16 to BPS-20 who maintain cars are entitled to receive Rs620 as fuel charges.

But the provincial government for unknown reasons has not yet extended the facility of conveyance allowance to the employees working at district and tehsil levels.

The official said the provincial government gave house rent to the nursing staff but did not give them the conveyance allowance on the plea that they were provided with accommodation at hostels, therefore they did not qualify for the allowance.

Some of the employees have also been facing a discrimination in getting the special additional allowance announced by the Nawaz Sharif government in 1999.

According to the formula, the employees from BPS-1 to BPS-16 are entitled to receive 25 per cent of their basic pay as special additional allowance while the servants from BPS-17 to BPS-20 are allowed to draw 20 per cent of the basic.
