QUETTA: National and local newspapers were not distributed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday in the provincial capital as well as in other cities and towns of Balochistan.

The media houses in Quetta did print their newspapers, albeit in reduced numbers, but they did not send them to the newspaper market as leaders of the Anjuman Akhbar Froshan had made it clear on Tuesday night that hawkers were not ready to distribute them.

Transporters also refused to take the newspapers to the interior parts of the province. Copies of the national dailies published in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad were also not dispatched to Quetta.

Meanwhile, suspected militants hurled a hand grenade on the premises of the Hub Press Club on Wednesday night, police said.

They said the grenade landed and exploded near the club’s boundary wall. The windowpanes of the club and nearby buildings were smashed due to the loud explosion.

The club’s building was also damaged. However, no injury was reported, police said.
