The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers in Karachi reportedly led by a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

A statement issued by the paramilitary force read that Rangers arrested all eight members of the group after conducting raids in different parts of the metropolis.

“This gang was involved in major bank heists in the city as well as mugging people at ATMs, petrol pumps and markets,” said the paramilitary's spokesperson.

The statement read that the arrested ring-leader was Jehan Dad alias Jeddy who has remained “a member of unit-44 of Muttahida Qaumi Movement in F.B. Area".

“Jehan Dad alias Jeddy has been patronising this gang for more than 10 years,” it added.

The spokesperson further said that the gang leader also provided illegal arms to robbers for carrying out crimes across the city.

“This gang has carried out robberies in various localities of the metropolis in an organised manner,” the Rangers statement maintained.

On the "orders of party leaders", the statement read, Jeddy would force traders and shopkeepers to shut down markets by resorting to firing during strike calls. He was also involved in extortion and wall chalking.

The suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.
