One worker of a private steel mill was killed while 14 others received burns on Wednesday due to an explosion in the factory's furnace unit in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa's Haripur district.

One worker succumbed to his injuries after reaching Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Wah Cantt

Seven of the 14 inured workers of Mustehkam Steel Mill have are still in critical condition, police sources conducting rescue activities confirmed.

According to the police, the eyes of some victims have also been affected in the explosion.

Police had to move all the victims to CMH Wah Cantt, some 38 kilometres away, as there are no burn units in the Hazara division.

According to DawnNews sources at the mill said that a large piece of rope fell into the steel melting pot in furnace unit and caused the chemical to splash, resulting in the initial burns to the victims.

The explosion was later caused due to a chemical reaction caused by the fallen rope in the melting pot, one source explained.
