Hasan Ali emerges as top bowler in ICC's ODI rankings

Hasan Ali emerged as the top bowler in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) latest One Day International (ODI) rankings released on Friday.

Ali jumped six spots in the rankings to reach the top of the list, according to a statement issued on ICC's website.

The fast-bowler's boost in the rankings follows his haul of five for 34 in the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, when Pakistan took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.

The 23-year-old who has taken nine wickets in the series so far, follows New Zealand's Trent Boult, South Africa's Imran Tahir, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and Austrlia's Josh Hazlewood in being the top of ICC's ODI rankings this year, according to the statement.

Ali also became the fastest Pakistani bowler to take 50 wickets in ODIs, achieving the feat in only 24 matches. He played an important part in Pakistan's Champions Trophy victory earlier this year.

Mohammad Hafeez is also at the top of ICC's ranking for all-rounder for the ninth time since 2013, the statement said.

Their teammate and middle-order batsman Babar Azam has also jumped to number four in ODI rankings after his back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka in the first two matches of the series.

Defeating a poor team like srilanka at the moment is not a big deal, even zimbabwe defeated them at their home. As far as hasan ali is concerned i don't think there is something special in him. He is a mediocre bowler just like yasir arafat and will struggle against good teams.

Is this guy human? Does he ever fail? In virtually every ODI he takes at least 3 wickets; and always with a terrific economy rate as well. He can bat too. And he has been successful in tests (the real cricket) as well. Not tall, but nippy and with excellent variations in pace, line, and pitch he stands out in a team of excellent bowlers. He has excellent variations in his celebrations too - very infectious! Carry on young man - for Pakistan's and your own glory; Ameen!

If Pakistan had home cricket, more records could have been achieved. Its very suprising how Pakistan won the Champions Trophy while ranked the lowest from the top 8. The best part was Pakistan thrashed all top 3 ranked teams. Pakistan is surely the most unpredictable team.

@Prateik It does help because it can motivates other players especially the incoming young talent to do well. Pak soil has produced and can produce talented players I think because the past and present both show this as a prove. Indians have to learn from Pak bowling attack which can eliminate the top batting order of any time if they get going and Pakistan has to learn from Indian batting line up if it get going then you mind as well pray Shanti Mantra to have mercy on the opponent team because anything gets in their way will simply get crushed. We must love each other :) IndoPak blood brothers 4 life!

@Prateik First of all keep in mind that we are talking ODIs and Pakistan’s Cricket ODIs record recently is far better than India’s and that also against all the odds and propaganda carried out by Indian, British and the Australian presses. The 180 runs ICC Champions Trophy in the final against India and 4-0 current result so far in ODIs against Sri Lanka explains a lot. There are quite a few *SMART TACTICS* somewhat illegal that are used by The Indian and Australian Bowlers such as using White wristbands when playing with white cricket ball or using Pink wristbands with pink cricket balls (Panya, B.Kumar, Ashwin and Jadeja) Please keep in mind that Pakistani Cricketers are not playing on their homeland/motherland, the number of spectators from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is almost same from each country at each venue in UAE and lastly Pakistan Cricket Board has been repeatedly asking ICB for Cricket matches which Indian Government has been avoiding for the best reasons known to The Indian Lawmakers and ICB officials.

Pakistan pulverized India in the CT final. The trump card is the bowling attack consisting of the pace and fury of Aamir, the guile and swing of Junaid Khan, the mystery spin of Shadab Khan , the asphyxiating economy of Hafeez, the variety of Rumman Raees, the accuracy and swing of Sohail Khan , the angles and seam of Usman Khan Shimwari , the left arm accuracy of Imad Waseem’s spin , the all round talent of Faheem Ashraf , the off spin variety of Shoaib Malik and many more. However Hassan Ali has been the most lethal with pace, hostility , accuracy, unbridled aggression , steepling bounce , bilateral swing , change of pace, skidding deliveries with homing accuracy and consistent line wreaking havoc on the opposition . He has rapidly reached the top of the table and hopefully will continue to dominate and bring laurels to the country. The PSL has unearthed many gems. Watch out for the new talent including the explosive Shaheen Afridi and Harris Rauf amongst many others!

Reading all the comments i wonder how can one manage when team will be travelling to new Zealand in January and have a 5-0 loss and all those scoring centuries at will on docile sharjah grounds will find it difficult to put bat to the ball

Being an Indian I would agree that it is good achievement to be ranked as the No. 1 ICC bowler specially playing on placid wickets. One should admire what is a genuine achievement, but the challenge for Hasan would be to sustain the position.

With due respect to Hassan Ali .. I disagree with these rankings. IMO worlds best bowler is Mohd Amir. He is next to My favorite Wasim Akram. Hassan Ali is good but no match to left arm pacer. Amir is cut above the rest
