OKARA, Aug 23: Three proclaimed offenders and a constable were killed in two encounters in different parts of the Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Two proclaimed offenders and a constable were killed in the shootout late Friday night near Basirpur.

Acting on a tip-off, SSP Kanwar Shahrukh Khan directed Deepalpur ASP Rizwan and Basirpur SHO Akbar to besiege the house of PO Hameed alias Hameedi in Chorasta Mian Khan village near Basirpur. The SHO along with a heavy police contingent and elite force encircled the PO’s house and asked him to surrender, but he opened fire on police. The police also returned the fire.

The shootout which started late Friday night continued for four hours. Later, police found bodies of POs Hameed alias Hameedi and Naseer alias Naseeri in the paddy fields. In the shootout, constable Hafiz Iqbal also lost his life. The police also arrested their third accomplice Allah Ditta alias Duttcha.

On the report of Basirpur SHO, Deepalpur Saddar police have registered a case.

On Saturday morning, the funeral prayer of the deceased constable was offered at Manzoor Shaheed Police Lines in the district courts complex. District Nazim Syed Sajjad Haider, DCO Khalid Masood, SSP Kanwar Shahrukh Khan and scores of other people offered his funeral prayer. Later, the body was shifted to his native Tara Singh village near Deepalpur for burial.

SHEIKHUPURA: A proclaimed offender was killed while a constable sustained serious bullet injuries on Saturday near Vandala Nasir.

Asif alias Asoo robbed Rana Shabbir when he was going on his way. Shabbir reported the matter to Ferozewala police who rushed to the spot forthwith and started chasing the PO. Near the canal, the PO opened fire on the police which was returned. In consequence of a brief shootout, the PO died instantly while constable Yasin suffered seriously bullet wounds. The injured constable was removed to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, in critical condition.

Meanwhile, a watchman was shot dead by some unidentified dacoits in Landa Bazaar area here on Saturday.

Rehmat challenged the dacoits but they opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
