MULTAN, Aug 23: Scores of PPP Khanewal workers organized on Saturday a protest camp against State Minister Raza Hayat Hiraj in his native Kabirwala tehsil.

The camp was organized by the party’s district organization to condemn the minister’s assault on senior party leader Naheed Khan during the national assembly session on Friday.

Emotions were running high among the protesters against the minister because, according to them, Raza Hiraj first betrayed the party by defecting it to join the pro-Musharraf patriot group and now he was showing an open contempt against the party leadership.

The camp was set up at ‘D’ Chowk in Kabirwala near the town committee office. The camp was decorated with banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the minister and the government for adopting ‘crush’ opposition policy. Posters of the minister garlanded with ‘lotas’ were also hanged in and outside the camp.

Speaking on the occasion, Khanewal PPP secretary-general Javed Hashmi advocate demanded resignation of the minister both from cabinet and the national assembly for using unparliamentary language and betraying his voters.

He announced that the party would organize protest camps against the minister in all tehsil headquarters of Khanewal district. The Multan division PPP coordinator claimed that the minister would know his standing in his constituency when he would contest election again on other than the PPP ticket.

SATISFACTION: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool expressed his satisfaction over the performance of federal government institutions during his visit of Shujaabad tehsil on Saturday.

The governor has been visiting different areas of the province to check the working of federal government departments especially in the far-flung areas.

However, the governor always pays a scheduled visit providing enough time to officials of the departments concerned to bring their affairs in order.

In Shujaabad, he visited the local Zarai Tarraqiati Bank, a mobile unit of Nadra, SNGPL and tehsil Nazim offices. After visiting these offices, he observed that the performance of government departments had been improved considerably during the three-and-a-half-year reign of General Pervez Musharraf.

Later, he distributed scholarship cheques among talented students of the tehsil on behalf of the tehsil council.
