KHUZDAR: Kalat Commissioner Hashim Ghilzai has called for better planning to minimise losses by natural disasters, particularly earthquakes.

Speaking at a seminar here on Friday, he said Japan was struck by a massive earthquake in recent past but the country’s better planning to deal with natural disasters helped its officials in minimising its damages.

He said unfortunately Pakistan lacked such a planning and this was the reason that the country witnessed large-scale destructions by earthquakes.

A model of Kutcha house was presented during the seminar and speakers called for using such a model because it was at the lower risk of destruction in case of an earthquake.

Khuzdar Mayor Mir Abdul Rahim Kurd said that awareness was required at all levels for disaster management. He said similar events should be organised also in other areas.
