KARACHI: Some unknown suspect(s) took away cash and other valuables worth thousands of rupees from four offices of newspaper hawkers located on Akbar Road in Saddar in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident prompted Inspector General of Police A.D. Khowaja to direct South DIG Azad Khan to hold an inquiry into the theft and submit a detailed report to him.

Preedy SHO Asrar Afridi told Dawn that the theft took place after 5am as the hawkers were present there till then sorting out the newspapers.

He said the door was opened from inside which indicated the possibility of some insiders’ involvement.

The official added that the suspects searched four offices and took away Rs30,000 to Rs35,000 from two of them.

He, however, said the exact figure would be calculated when the victims lodge an FIR.

The officer said he approached the hawkers who told the police that they would consult their office-bearers before filing a formal FIR.
