Second Test: Pakistan 51-0 in reply to Sri Lanka's 482

Pakistan, replying to Sri Lanka's mammoth first-innings total of 482, were 51-0 at close on the second day of the second day-night Test in Dubai on Saturday.
Openers Shan Masood (15) and Sami Aslam (30) were at the crease as Pakistan trailed Sri Lanka by 431 runs.
Earlier, opener Dimuth Karunaratne scored a career-best 196 to guide Sri Lanka to an imposing 482 in their first innings.
Karunaratne missed his double hundred by four runs in a marathon nine-hour stay at the crease on the second day of the Test before he unluckily played onto leg-spinner Yasir Shah just before dinner.
Shah took 6-184 in a marathon 55.5 overs of hard work and toil on a flat Dubai stadium pitch.
Pakistan trail by 1-0 in the series after they lost the first Test by 21 runs in Abu Dhabi.
Karunaratne added 146 with skipper Dinesh Chandimal (62) for the fourth wicket before another 88 was put on for the fifth between him and Niroshan Dickwella, who made a rapid 52.
As if that was not enough, Karunaratne put on 59 for the sixth wicket with Dilruwan Perera who scored a polished 58.
Karunaratne hit 19 boundaries and a six, improving on his previous best Test score of 186 made against the West Indies at Galle two years ago.
When on 143 he brought up his 3,000th run in his 44th Test.
To add to Pakistan's woes, pace spearhead Mohammad Amir walked off the field after a recurring shin injury sustained late on Friday. He managed to bowl just three overs in the day.

After the departures of Misbah and Younus Khan, there is hardly any depth in Pakistan's batting.

Pakistan should start playing with Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan, Kenya etc. If you get lucky you will win 1 or 2 matches out of 5. Just like fluke of of champions trophy final.

Another tiring day for Pakistani bowlers. Now the question is whether Pakistani batsmen are mentally prepared to avoid follow on. Sri Lanka ended their innings with the score at 482. Wicket has already started taking spin and let's wait and see what Ranganna Herath has in his mind.

Extremely poor selection of the team. Pakistan goes into this test with 4 regular bowlers and are now 3 bowlers. Why cant we have a fifth bowler or at least a bowling all rounder. Perhaps Imad Wasim. I seriously doubt Inzi,s credentials as the chief selector. Maybe he is better suited as a Batting coach.

Same old story of weak bowling attack, poor fielding and lack of strategy to restrict Sri Lanka scoring under 350 runs. I wouldn't be surprised, if Pakistan lose this test and series by 2- 0. Back to drawing board after world cup win and all publicity that made our players big headed and arrogant.

Going by your performance in the recent test series we can safely say that the final was a fluke. As for the Indian batting is concerned it more than made up for it in the following series. Check out the scores in the India - Sri Lanka test series. We're #1 in both tests and ODI.

The recurring injuries on dead pitches are alike walking on metalled road than on clay track and cumulative results are injuries to shin calf muscles toes thin soft bones?Amir is an assets to Pakistan National Team and Pakistan selection Committee knows nature of gulf countries pitches so should have selected all rounder spinners than fast medium bowlers, even veteran Wahab Riaz struggled and he is too prone to injury. Further it is inhuman to torture Leg Spinner Yasser Shah to bowl more than 50 overs in an innings as he did at Abu Dhabi.

@Yahya Ali - In cricket or any sport, even the best teams & individuals sometimes have an off day and that's what happened to India in the CT final. Look at their record since then: 4-1 in West Indies, 9-0 in Sri Lanka & 5-1 against Australia.

@Rahul How can a final be a fluke. You play final after winning a number of matches and performing better than most of the others. But the reality is Pakistan defeated India in the final. It is a reality that you or anyone else cannot change.
