KARACHI: A suspected gangster was killed in a shootout hours after he was taken into custody by Rangers on Friday.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said late on Friday night that after arresting Adil alias Khauf the Rangers personnel raided a place on information provided by him to arrest his accomplices.

He said when the personnel raided the place Adil’s accomplices opened fire on them. The personnel returned fire and Adil while trying to escape was hit during cross-fire and died. His accomplices, however, managed to escape, he added.

The spokesperson said Adil, said to be the leader of Zahid Ladla-led gang in Lyari, was allegedly involved in a grenade attack on the house of incarcerated ringleader of Lyari-gang war Uzair Baloch on Aug 18. A 10-year-old boy, Mohammed Aryan, had died in the attack.

He said Adil was also allegedly involved in a grenade attack on a rally in Lyari on June 19 which was addressed by the Sindh governor.
