ISLAMABAD: A super store being run by a Chinese was sealed for selling haram meat on Tuesday, but unsealed on Wednesday, Dawn has learnt on Wednesday.

In response to a complaint that the store, located in Super Market, was selling the meat, Assistant Commissioner (AC) City Saad bin Asad raided the store and found few packets of pork.

The store owner failed to produce documents or permits for selling the meat.

As a result, a fine of Rs30,000 was imposed on him and all the consignment of the meat seized.

Later the assistant commissioner also sealed the store for further legal action and called the owner of the store at his office.

AC Saad bin Asad confirmed to Dawn that 20 to 25 packets of the meat, each weighing half a kg, were seized from the store.

According to the Halal Food Act, sale and purchase of haram meat is prohibited in the country, he added.

But foreigners were allowed to sell and purchase the meat, but should have a permit for it, he added.

The Chinese owner of the store did not have any document to run the business, he added.

After receiving an undertaking from the owner that he would follow the stipulated rules, the store was unsealed, the AC said, adding he was also put under observation for two weeks.
