Mahatir lifts under-12 title

KARACHI: Mahatir Mohammad clinched the under-12 singles title in fifth Indus Pharma National Seniors and Juniors Tennis Championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Thursday.

Mahatir was given tough time by Asher Mir, his summit clash opponent, before he recorded an 8-7 victory to clinch the title.

In the under-14 singles semifinal, Rayyan Jawwad faced tough resistance from Yahya Ehtasham before winning 7-5, 7-5.

Nauman Aftab dropped a set against Hassan Farooq before recording a 6-4, 6-7, 6-0 triumph to qualify for the final of under-18 singles event.

In the soft tennis girls’ event, Apsara Shiraz thras­hed Rukhsana Abid 5-0 score while Hania Naved beat Rosable Ujala by the same score.

Robin Das overpowered Saad M. Ali 5-0 while Eibad Sarwar Hussain Khan overcame Kamran Ahmed 5-3 in soft tennis men’s semi-finals.

In 35-plus doubles semi-finals, Kamran Ahmed and Khalid Ali Nazar defeated Shakaib and Yasir Khan 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Asad Ali Bhagat and Reza Ali Mirza thrashed Karim Gul and Pasha Jee 6-0, 6-1.
