KOHAT, Jan 5: In defiance of the NWFP IGP’s orders to revert all 107 policemen, who were awarded shoulder promotions during the past five years, to their original position, 27 continue to enjoy the perks of the post, Dawn survey has revealed.

Last year when the IGP issued the reversion orders of the promoted officers, including ASIs, SIs, DSPs, and more than 2000 officers lost their cadres. Some of the police officers, however, managed to retain their new positions without even qualifying the required course and examinations.

According to a police source the 107 police officers gained promotions to fill the positions which were lying vacant for so many years.

But the IGP ordered an immediate reversion of everyone, except those who were qualified and deserving. But this did not happen. Some unqualified managed hold on to their positions, and the unqualified got reverted back to their original ranks. Surprisingly, none of those promoted had the experience nor the qualifications i.e. six months training at the police training college Hangu after passing the A-1, B-1 and C-1 courses but were promoted to the next grade.

Similarly, those promoted to the rank of platoon commanders on honorary basis and were to be reverted after three years of service, refused to relinquish charge. The NWFP police had been authorized by the concerned ministry to employ 1,200 persons, whereas there was need for about 5,000 policemen.
