GUJRANWALA, Aug 20: A girl was shot dead by her friend’s brothers over a matrimonial dispute on Naushera Road on Wednesday.

Kishwar was the friend of Sumaira and wanted to marry her with her brother Afzal. But Sumaira’s parents turned down their proposal and betrothed her to another person.

Sumaira was on her way home from the market when Kishwar took her to her house and forced her to marry her brother. But she refused to do so. They became infuriated on her refusal and reportedly opened fire on her. She died on way to hospital.

Later, they told Sumaira’s family that a stray bullet hit her. But police arrested Kishwar and her sister Shakila while her brothers Afzal and Asghar managed to escape.

PRISONERS ESCAPE: An alleged criminal and his accomplice escaped from the Cantt police lock-up.

The Cantt police arrested Asif alias Natho of Rahwali who was declared a proclaimed offender and detained him in the lock-up along with another criminal, Ashraf, of Naushera Virkan. They escaped by breaking ventilator of the lock-up when naib moharrar and guard were asleep.

On receiving information the DPO reached the spot and ordered the arrest of naib moharrar Munawar Husain and Constable Muhammad Ansar.
