Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in a meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York on Thursday demanded the body appoint a special representative for Kashmir as he apprised the UN chief of Indian ceasefire violations across the Line of Control and Working Boundary, Radio Pakistan reported.

Abbasi also shared a dossier on human rights violations committed by Indian security forces in held Kashmir with Guterres.

The PM told the UN chief that India had closed the doors of dialogue with Pakistan. He also apprised him of the deaths of civilians in cross-border firing today.

At least six civilians have been killed and 20 others wounded in 'unprovoked' firing and shelling by Indian forces across the Working Boundary, according to the army's media wing and local administration officials in Sialkot.

Guterres acknowledged Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts, Radio Pakistan reported.

PM Abbasi, who will address the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York tonight, is expected to "enunciate Pakistan's position on key international issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute," Radio Pakistan reported.

"He will inform the world body about Pakistan's successes in the economic field and in fighting terrorism and extremism," the state-run media service reported.
