MUZAFFARABAD: A couple and their granddaughter were killed and five other family members were wounded after their vehicle fell hundreds of feet down the road in Sudhnoti district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The victims were returning to their homes in Rawalakot after attending a wedding ceremony in Rawalpindi in a Hyundai Shehzore when the accident occurred near Afsar Market in the jurisdiction of Mang police station at about 6:30am, a police official told Dawn from the area.

As a result, Mushtaq Ahmed, 55, his spouse Shamim Akhtar, 50, and two-and-a-half years old granddaughter Noor died on the spot and five others were injured, he said.

The official was of the view that Mr Mushtaq might have dozed off for a few moments as a result of which the vehicle went out of his control and fell some 300 feet down the road.

The injured were identified as Mr Mushtaq’s son Mohammad Shahzad, 33, daughter-in-law Naheed Begum, 30, and three daughters Iqra, 13, Asiya, 10, and Hoor, 3. They were shifted to Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital Rawalakot.
