BADIN, Aug 19: At least 50 survey teams have been formed to assess the damages caused by the torrential rains in the coastal district of Badin so that the affected people could be rehabilitated as soon as possible.
Syed Ali Bux Shah alias Papoo Shah said this while talking to journalists after a meeting of the District Relief and Rescue Committee on Monday.
He said each team consisted of the Union Council Nazim or Naib Nazim (if both were not available, then a councillor), Tapedar, an influential person of the area and the police, and added that the team would conduct a survey and assess the damages to houses, casualties, crop losses, loss of cattle heads, etc.
He said that each team would conduct a survey within the limits of Tappa.
He said that the teams would complete this task within 10 days so that the total loss figures could be sent to higher authorities.
He said that it was decided in the meeting to include the name of the Taluka Nazim, Badin, Dr Musarrat Khwaja, in the District Relief and Rescue Committee as a member, and added that, however, if he did not respond within 24 hours, he would be replaced by somebody else.
He said that the meeting took notice of the absence of the EDO (Health), Badin, and decided to report against him to the higher authorities.
The meeting expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of health facilities for the rain victims.
He said that directives were also issued to the director, SIDA, to immediately plug the breaches within two days and restore supply of fresh water for drinking purposes to the people.
