Police official suspended in Bahawalpur after transgender community protests alleged harassment

A police official in Bahawalpur was suspended following a protest by members of the transgender community against alleged harassment and intimidation by members of law enforcement on Wednesday.

The protesters alleged that police in Ahmadpur Sharqia intimidate and threaten members of the transgender community who perform at wedding events.

The police were accused of threatening to register false cases against members of the transgender community, and of arresting them if they did not submit to their threats.

The protesters also alleged that members of the police force mistreated them in public, and appealed to the regional police officer and district police officer (DPO) for help.

Consequently, DPO Dr Akhtar Abbas suspended Sub-Inspector Raees Ahmed for irresponsible behaviour and promised protection to the transgender community.

I stand by the rights of the transgender community of Pakistan. They deserve to be treated with respect in the society. I resolutely condemn any intimidation of the transgender community by the police.

The police in Pakistan had become a group of law violaterers in the name of law enforcement agency.only because of its recruitment on political grounds and too amongst the law breaking people's of the wadera and chohdry circles and uncivilized people's. Now it is the news of the day to abondon this group of service and the people from the military be brought to this side and not under a civil police officers with an strict accountability system.

it seems like we don't spare anyone. The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. folks, i would encourage the social media, the print media, and electronic media to play an active role...all of that medium is not about the exploitation of technology but service to the community.
