ISLAMABAD: A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the killing of a man in an alleged police encounter in the capital on Aug 30.

The order issued from the office of the chief commissioner Islamabad on Tuesday stated: “…in connection with incident of firing case FIR no 181 dated 30.08.2017 u/s 302/3242/34, police station Shahzad Town, the Chief Commissioner ICT is pleased to constitute an inquiry committee for conducting magisterial inquiry into the incident.”

The two-member committee, comprising an assistant commissioner and the additional deputy commissioner, has been directed to submit its report in three days.

The inquiry will establish the facts and circumstances besides verifying the statements/versions of the policemen involved in the alleged encounter and a man who accompanied the deceased at the time of the incident.Syed Inayat Hussein Shah was killed and Syed Ejaz Hussein Shah injured when a police patrolling team opened fire on their car near Rawal Town on Aug 30. The policemen claimed the two men had shot at them first.

However, the injured described the incident as a fake encounter, adding the police team targeted them at the behest of a man with whom they had a monetary dispute.

A case was registered against the police officials involved in the alleged encounter and four police personnel were arrested.
