PM inaugurates country's 5th nuclear power plant at Chashma

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday inaugurated the country's fifth nuclear power plant C-4 at Chashma, Mianwali area, reported DawnNews.

The C-4 plant is capable of generating 340MW electricity.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, PM Abbasi said that the project would help the country's energy problem.

The Chashma nuclear power projects units, C-1, C-2 and C-3 have already been successfully contributing to the national grid, he said, adding that two large nuclear power plants, K-2 and K-3, were also under construction that he hoped would be operational soon.

Abbasi said that the nuclear plants produce economical electricity; more power generation projects would be launched in Chashma and Muzaffarabad areas, he added.

The prime minister thanked the government of China for its cooperation and said that the projects could not have been completed without the support of Chinese people and the government.

Nuclear power is not the future of our country both in terms of capital investment and their environmental consequences. The future lies in the renewable energy. The price of solar panels has dropped down significantly low due to Chinese mass production. There is an urgent need to promulgate the policy to provide incentives to produce renewable energy both at micro and macro level. Wind turbines are also suitable in the coastal areas of the country. The energy drought can only be overcome with a step forward in the right direction which is unfortunately not the case.

Wind power is cheapest energy, EU analysis finds Onshore windfarms far cheaper than coal and gas when health impacts are factored in, report shows Onshore wind is cheaper than coal, gas or nuclear energy when the costs of ‘external’ factors like air quality, human toxicity and climate change are taken into account, according to an EU analysis. The report says that for every megawatt hour (MW/h) of electricity generated, onshore wind costs roughly €105 (£83) per MW/h, compared to gas and coal which can cost up to around €164 and €233 per MW/h, respectively. Nuclear power, offshore wind and solar energy are all comparably inexpensive generators, at roughly €125 per MW/h.

this is v cheap way of generating electricity once it starts working... however the save and clean is still hydel plus it will help u store water for bad times

Nuclear plant 340 MW is the first design of China. It was copied from Canadian and US designs that are 40-50 years old. China is building reactors now that are 1400-1500 MW capacity. It is well known that operating a 340 MW reactor is expensive. It does not have economy of scale. In USA reactors less than 900 MW capacity have been closed down long time back. It is a bad investment.
