KHAIRPUR, Aug 18: A large number of growers held a demonstration and observed a token hunger strike in Hingorja here on Monday to protest against the shortage of water in Mehrab and Machhar minors.

Talking to journalists, the protesters said the shortage of water had damaged their crops but irrigation officials were not releasing water in the minors feeding their lands.

A procession was also taken out by growers against water shortage in the Sehta Minor.

Meanwhile, growers held a protest demonstration and observed a token hunger strike at the Imam Minor bridge for the 10th consecutive day against water shortage in different parts of the Sobhodero taluka.

The growers demanded that the minor should be desilted so that the flow of water could be increased.
