MANSEHRA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government notified Darband as the fifth tehsil of Mansehra district here on Wednesday.

“I am thankful to the chief minister and his government for giving Darband the status of a tehsil and not including in it those union councils whose people were not willing to be part of the new tehsil,” MPA Mohammad Ibrar Tanoli told reporters in Oghi on Wednesday.

The KP government had notified two tehsils — Baffa-Pakhal and Darband — in Mansehra district during the current week.

The newly-notified Darband tehsil would be consisted of three union councils — Darband, Nikkapani and Shanaya — as people of Shergar and Karori union councils had opposed incorporation of their UCs in Darband tehsil. Mr Tanoli, who is MPA of Qaumi Watan Party, said the appointment process in the new subdivision would soon be started.
