HYDERABAD, Aug 17: Over a dozen Mallhs (wrestlers) under the aegis of the Sindh Mallh Association observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club on Sunday to protest against the sports director .

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the association, Sarwar Jatoi, said that the Sindh government had allocated Rs20 million for the promotion of sports but the director had refused to disclose as to how much money was allocated for the promotion of Mallhakro (Sindhi wrestling).

He said that the popular sport was a part of Sindh’s culture.

He said that Malh events were regularly held during annual fairs at the shrines of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Qalandar Lal Shahbaz, Sachal Sarmast and other such occasions.

Mr Jatoi regretted that no Mallh during his hour of need, including illness, had ever been given any financial assistance by the government.

He said that the token hunger strike would continue unless it was disclosed as to how much funds had been allocated for the promotion of popular sport of Sindh.

The protesting Mallhs also demonstrated their skills on the press club road which attracted a lot of people.
