KARACHI, Aug 17: The Crisis Management Committee has advised the Sindh Fisheries Department to prohibit fishing activity in the shallow waters close to the area affected by the oil slick caused by spillage from a Greek vessel Tasman Spirit which has ran aground.

According to the committee’s announcement made after its meeting here on Sunday, fishing will remain prohibited in the area till the situation improves and a clearance is given by the Karachi Port Trust and Environment Protection Agency, Sindh.

The meeting was presided over by Home Secretary Syed Anwar Haider.

The committee was set up in the wake of the oil slick with assigned the task to suggest ways and means to overcome the crisis.

The KPT is using satellite images of the coastal zone to identify the affected and safe areas and monitor the situation. —APP
