KARAK: A young mineworker was killed and his brother was injured when they were hit by a landslide while working in a gypsum mine in Jatta Ismailkhel area here on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Nawab Zali, who died on the spot, while is brother, Zahid Wali, was injured.

The local people and police retrieved the body and the injured from under the debris using heavy machinery.

The body was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Banda Daud Shah, for postmortem. Later, it was handed over to family.

Meanwhile, the mineworkers’ association president Naveed Khattak and other office-bearers expressed sorrow over the incident and claimed that lack of proper safety measures and maintenance of the mines such incidents were happening frequently.

They stressed on the lease holders to maintain at least minimum precautions at the mines for safety of the workers.

They demanded of the authorities to ensure payment of death and injured grants to the victims in shortest possible time.
