LAHORE: A jobless man allegedly stabbed his wife to death and injured his daughter after being refused money for gambling in Sabzazar here on Tuesday.

The police said the suspect, Taj Ali, was jobless for the last many years and his wife Razia Bibi was running the family by working as a housemaid.

On Tuesday, the police said, Taj demanded money from his wife for gambling. On her refusal, the suspect attacked Razia and their daughter Maria when she tried to rescue her mother.

Both of them suffered multiple wounds and were taken to hospital where Razia succumbed to her injuries, according to the police.

The condition of Maria is said to be serious. The assailant fled the scene. The police sent the body for an autopsy and lodged a case against Taj.

Accident: A rickshaw driver was killed while five other people got injured when a speeding truck rammed into five vehicles on Amir Road in Shadbagh on Tuesday.

A police official said the incident had taken place due to failure of truck’s brakes.

Quoting eyewitnesses, he said as soon as the truck appeared on the road, the driver was seen alerting people loudly about the brakes failure. However, it first rammed into an auto rickshaw and then four other vehicles in the same row, leaving five motorists injured.

The rickshaw driver suffered critical wounds and died instantly. His three-wheeler was completely damaged while four other vehicles, including two cars, were also damaged partially. The people who suffered injuries were rushed to hospital.

The truck driver fled the scene, leaving his vehicle on the road.
