KARACHI: Eidul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on Sept 2 as the Zilhaj moon has not been sighted, Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced on Tuesday.

“We have reached a consensus that the Zilhaj moon was not sighted,” he told the media at the Met Office after a meeting of the committee.

The first day of Zilhaj (1438 AH) will now fall on Aug 24 (tomorrow) and Eid on Sept 2 (Saturday) in Pakistan.

In Saudi Arabia, the month of Zilhaj will begin on Wednesday and the ninth day of the month — known as the Day of Arafah, a key part of the Haj pilgrimage — will commence in the evening of Aug 30 and end in the evening of Aug 31. Eidul Azha in the kingdom will be celebrated on Sept 1.
