KARACHI, Aug 16: Two alleged bandits were shot dead in, what police claimed, ‘encounters’ at different places in the metropolis on Saturday.

According to police, a suspected drug pusher, Anwar, 27, was killed in an encounter with police in Kalakot.

Town police officer Ali Mohsin said that the police chased Anwar and his accomplice, Tariq, which prompted the shootout. As a result, he added, Anwar died on the spot. Tariq, however, managed to flee. A repeater was found beside Anwar’s body.

In Korangi Industrial Area, a police patrolling party spotted two bandits trying to snatch a taxi. The police challenged the bandits but they opened fire, the police claimed and said that the fire was returned and one of the outlaws was killed. His accomplice made his escape good, they added.

The body of the alleged bandit was taken to a hospital for autopsy. He could not be identified immediately.
