ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways announced on Monday its decision to run ‘Azadi Train’ on the 70th Independence Day.

The train which will start its journey on Aug 12 is currently being prepared at the Islamabad Carriage Factory.

According to the railways ministry spokesperson, more than 100 labourers were working day and night to finalise models of different cultural heritages of Pakistan which will be part of the train.

The special train will start its journey from Margalla Railway Station in Islamabad, and will portray genesis of Pakistan, besides highlighting cultural diversity of the provinces and different regions of the country.

The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) will arrange 36 folk artists, singers and musicians including puppeteers to accompany the ‘Azadi’ train, for which funding will be provided by the ministry of information, broadcasting and national heritage.

The artists and singers will perform at all major Railway Station including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur, Quetta and Karachi as per schedule of Azadi train. It will make a stopover at every station to provide an opportunity to the people of those areas to see the beautiful cultural and historical models displayed on the train.
