IHC rejects petition seeking placement of Sharif family, others on ECL

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed a petition calling for the names of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family to be included in the Exit Control List (ECL), terming it non-maintainable.

The petition had been filed by lawyer Raees Abdul Wahid, days after the Supreme Court ordered Nawaz Sharif to step down as prime minister in its ruling on the Panama Papers case.

The petitioner had asked that the names of Nawaz Sharif; his children Hassan, Hussain and Maryam; son-in-law Capt Safdar; and finance minister Ishaq Dar be placed on the ECL and their accounts frozen.

After a preliminary hearing by Justice Amir Farooq on Monday morning, the court rejected the petition as non-maintainable for hearing.

Good decision. Please let institutions focus on pending cases of ordinary people of Pakistan. Do not attempt to politicise institutions. There are more important issues in Pakistan than politics.

@Peace Stopping someone who has been indicted of abuse of power, misappropriation of public funds, corruption, nepotism and waste of public funds for his family's enjoyment and enrichment, from absconding from the country before his trial begins, is not important enough? How many $ Billions does anyone have to loot and plunder from this poor country - where good 1/3 of the country lives in abject poverty, in debt and is illiterate to survive - for you to stop those who are raping the nation? Do the 'ordinary people of Pakistan' deserve some justice and accountability?/
