RAWALPINDI: The inspector general of police Punjab has directed divisional police chiefs to not give Punjab Constabulary (PC) personal duties other than maintaining law and order.

The IGP said that though he had made directions that PC personnel should only be used for maintaining law and order, they were being deployed for conducting raids, patrolling, stop and search duties, point duties and even for traffic control.

Referring to the outstanding orders issued by the IGP office in 2003, he said divisional police chiefs were violating the IGP’s orders which says a platoon should not be split to perform duties other than maintaining law and order.

The IGP ordered all regional police officers to follow the standing order in letter and spirit and avoid violating his orders.

When asked, City Traffic Officer Yousaf Shahid said the Rawalpindi traffic police have not been using PC personnel for traffic duty.
