KARACHI, Aug 13: The Peoples Party Parliamentarians on Wednesday requisitioned a Provincial Assembly session to discuss its five-point agenda, including the Greater Thar Canal project.

The requisition, signed by 57 members of the PPP, was deposited in the Speaker’s office at 10.20 am by its parliamentary leader Nisar Khuhro, who was accompanied by Rafiq Engineer, Shazia Marri and others.

The requisition does not contain signatures of MMA MPAs who have so far acted as part of the joint opposition.

The PPP wants the Sindh Assembly to discuss how the provincial government had pursued the two unanimous resolutions passed against the Greater That Canal Project.

The main opposition party in Sindh assembly also wants to discuss the situation caused by the rains and what it calls the inadequate measures taken by the provincial government.

The agenda also includes discussion on the role of certain police officials in the killing of Muhammad Hussain of Badin for demanding a bag of flour in Nawabshah, and certain other police officials who, the party says, made Taluka Nazim hostage instead of apprehending the culprits who had burnt the car of MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio.

The opposition also wants discussion on the allotment of land to the personnel of armed forces in Garhi Yasin and Thatta, besides a discussion on the overall law and order situation.

Parliamentary leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal in the provincial assembly, Maulana Umar Sadiq, said that as he was away he could not be contacted. However, he said that there had been some telephonic conversations earlier.

Maulana Sadiq said that his alliance’s stand on the GTC was well known, and added that his group would stand for the rights and interests of the people of Sindh. About the future he said the alliance would act according to the directives of the central leadership.
