GWADAR: Four people were killed and five others injured when a landmine explosion struck a vehicle carrying villagers in the Cheedgi area of Panjgur district near the Pak-Iran border on Saturday.

Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jaffar Baloch said a group of shepherds was passing by the border area with their livestock in the early hours of the day when the vehicle hit the landmine.

He said the landmine might have been planted by the Iranian authorities to keep a check on illegal movement between borders.

Some sources claimed that bullets wounds were also found on the bodies but the commissioner denied reports of firing by the Iranian forces.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to the district hospital. The deceased were identified as Hafeezur Rehman, Mujahid, Hasan Jan and Barkat. Haji Khan Baka Mohammad, Abdullah, Abdul Samad, Amanullah and Mohammad Imran were injured.
