MIRPURKHAS, Aug 12: Dozens of councillors of Union Council Fazal Bhambhro held a protest demonstration in front of the press club on Tuesday to protest against the inefficiency and corruption of the Nazim and Naib Nazim.

Carrying placards and banners, they raised slogans against the Nazim and his deputy.

The protesters, including Ali Gul, Khammoon Bheel, Mataro Burdi, Ali Khan Rind, Ibrahim Aathlo, Siddique Khoso, Bagh Ali Rajput, Mohammad Ayub Kapri, Mukhtiar Ali and Mohammad Tungri, told newsmen that Nazim Jan Mohammad Chandio and the Naib Nazim were neglecting them by not paying attention to the development schemes of their areas and were favouring only those close to them.

They lamented that the district Nazim, Naib Nazim, union council Nazim, Taluka Nazim and Naib Nazim had not visited their areas that were badly affected during the rains.

They complained that the people of the union council were being deprived of drinking water and the authorities concerned did not spray pesticide against mosquitoes as a result of which malaria was spreading in their areas.

They demanded that the district Nazim visit the union council and start relief work.

REDRESSAL OF PROBLEMS: The district Nazim, Mirpurkhas, Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani, has stressed the need for redressal of people’s grievances by the district government and called for preparing plans for next year.

Presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday, which reviewed the business of local bodies, he said that all district government departments should prepare plans for the benefit of the poor.

He said that he would hold a meeting with the officers of each department for evaluating their performance.

He directed the officers to contact NGOs and distribute relief goods among the rain victims.

He asked the EDO, health, to take effective measures for elimination of malaria from rural and urban areas and submit a report regarding basic health units.

He said that distribution of medicines should be conducted in a transparent manner.

He said that a report reg-arding availability of med-icines should be submitted to him so that recommendations could be made to the Sindh government.
