MINGORA: Adviser to the prime minister and PML-N’s provincial president, Amir Muqam, inaugurated the women campus of Swat University here on Tuesday.

The establishment of women campus of the Swat University was announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in May 2016 during his visit to the district.

Inaugurating the campus, Mr Muqam said that the federal government had approved Rs900 million for the women campus and more funds would also be sanctioned in future for promotion of female education.

He said that the government gave importance to education and had initiated mega projects for higher education in the country.

Swat University vice-chancellor Mehboobur Rehman said that initially rented building would be arranged for the women campus. “Classes of BS Zoology and Botany will be started immediately in the women campus while other disciplines will be added gradually,” he said.

ANNUAL FUNCTION: Students and teachers received awards in an annual parents day function for showing excellence in academics here on Tuesday.

The function titled ‘Heavy Hitters Day 2016-17’ was organised by The City School, Swat campus, which was also attended by parents and elders of the area. Safiya Rehman, headmistress of the school, said that people in Swat were aware of the importance of education and gave equal opportunities to their daughters and sons. “Establishment of some of the best English medium institutes means that the standard of education in Swat is getting higher where students get education to meet the present day challenges,” said Rafiullah Khan, father of a student.
