Darul Aman inaugurated

LAHORE, Aug 10: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood inaugurated the City District Government Darul Aman on Bund Road here on Sunday.

Speaking on the oaccasion, the Nazim said that the CDG would start providing shelter to women in distress from all over the province at the Darul Aman from Oct 1. He said that women taking refuge in the Darul Aman would be provided free legal aid and board and lodging facilities and would also be imparted training in different skills to enable them to earn a livelihood.

He ordered release of Rs900,000 for the purchase of transport, furniture and equipment for the Darul Aman and making it a model shelter for the women in distress. He directed CDG Social Welfare Officer Zebun Nissa to take charge of the Darul Aman till the recruitment of its incharge and staff.

Executive District Officer Zahid Aziz Khan informed the District Nazim that the Darul Aman building had been completed at a cost of Rs9 million and would require Rs100,000 per month for providing board and lodging facilities to 50 women at a time.

He said that women coming to the Panah Centre being set up at the Jinnah Hall and those ordered to be provided shelter by the courts would be lodged at the Darul Aman. Transport facilities would be provided to women lodged at the Darul Aman for participation in court proceedings.
