LAHORE, Aug 10: City police chief Khwaja Khalid Farooq on Sunday ordered that the record of criminals should be computerized at the level of police stations.
He was presiding over a meeting of the investigation wing at his office, where he also assigned an SP the task of supervising probes into heinous crimes.
The meeting reviewed in detail matters regarding investigation of pending cases and the measures adopted for checking car-theft and snatching.
Promising additional force to the investigation wing, the police chief urged it to deliver the goods. He said he would like to see investigators complete their task and submit case files to the courts on schedule.
Mr Khwaja asked the investigation wing to compile and send complete data of criminals to the police stations concerned.
The police chief told the meeting that more force and equipment would be provided to the police at city’s exit and entry points to curb car-snatching and -theft.
MURDER: Two people were shot dead in different parts of the city on Sunday.
Nasir told police his brother-in-law, Ali Hasan (30), had been doing his business at a place in Shahdara. Arshad, Anwar and Sher Khan of the locality wanted this place and had threatened him with dire consequences if he did not leave that place.
On Sunday, the three men opened fire on him after an exchange of hot words. He sustained serious injuries and died on way to hospital.
Ejaz, 18, of Sherakot was taken to the Shaikh Zayed Hospital with a bullet injury where he died.
The police said the matter turned suspicious after his mother, Naseem Bibi, made two conflicting statements. First she said he had committed suicide and, later, she claimed a bullet hit him when a gun went off.
Naseem had contracted second marriage with Sikandar after getting divorce from Anwar, the police said, and suspected that it could be a motive behind the killing.
