Spirited reply by Pakistan Academy

KARACHI, Aug 9: Pakistan Academy made a spirited reply on the second day of their four-day game against National Academy of South Africa at Lc de Villiers Oval-1 in Pretoria on Saturday.

According to details available from South Africa, Pakistan Academy were 138 for one at close of play with left-handed opener Salman Butt batting on 70 and Bilal Asad 30.

Faisal Athar made 28 and put on 77 with Salman, who so far has hit six fours and a six in his 110-ball knock.

Earlier, pacers Abdul Rauf and Junaid Zia captured three wickets each as National Academy amassed 436 in their first innings after Pakistan Academy skipper Faisal Iqbal elected to field first having won the toss.

Rauf was easily the pick of the bowlers, taking three for 52 in 14.5 overs. Junaid gave away 102 runs in 29 overs, while leg-spinner Mansoor Amjad was also expensive, conceding 114 runs in 38 overs for his two wickets.

For the home side, M. Harris top-scored with 95. He faced 197 balls and struck seven boundaries. Other main scorers were wicket-keeper B. Nomani (89 off 192 balls, eight fours), G. Smith (79 off 137 balls, five fours and one six) and opener H. Davids (60 off 97 balls, six fours).
