LAHORE,  Aug 9: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has  discussed the constitutional and legal position of  newly-formed provincial cricket associations with former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Nasim Hasan Shah, on Saturday.

A PCB spokesman said that Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, the board’s chairman, held discussions with Nasim, who is also a former president of the then Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP).

PCB’s decision to appoint office-bearers in each provincial body annoyed the country’s two main cricket associations — KCCA and LCCA. KCCA stubbornly resisted the move since it termed the nominations unconstitutional but LCCA bowed before the PCB and decided to extend cooperation.

“The main discussion point of the meeting was the constitutional and legal position of PCA that have come to stay at least for a year but, while we are convinced that we have acted constitutionally in establishing PCA we are determined not to undermine the rules of city associations for the time being.

“Nevertheless  the city association will have to report and work under PCA. We have the highest regard for all city associations because of their contribution for the developments and promotion of the game for the last many years,” the PCB chairman said in a statement.

He added that the board is keen to resolve the KCCA problems through dialogue in an amicable environment.

However, PCB has not fixed any date fir a meeting with the KCCA delegation, a plea KCCA had been demanding for the last 10 days.

Meanwhile, Punjab Cricket Association president Ijaz Butt and secretary Saeed Naseer Ahmed called on the PCB chairman in which issues relating to organising of forthcoming international matches were discussed. Punjab will organise 13 international matches in the next three months.
