Flood alerts issued for AJK, upper Punjab in anticipation of heavy rainfall

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in a flood alert issued Monday warned of heavy rains and thunderstorms in Islamabad, upper Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

Scattered rainfall is also expected in southern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) over the same time period.

Punjab, KP, GB and the upper catchment areas of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places between July 11 and 13, the NDMA alert said.

As a result of heavy rains in the next few days, Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej may experience medium to high floods, the authority cautioned.

The NDMA advised relevant departments and individuals to take precautionary measures to ensure safety and protection in case of expected floods.

It has also called for concerned departments to issue alerts, clean the sewerage and drainage system of cities and warned individuals to refrain from swimming in pools of gathered water and being near electric wires during the rains.

It is very common and also disappointing to see floods and droughts in subcontinent. This is due to bad planning of water resources and drainages. All SAARC countries and also China should have a common water linking system

If canal system was intact all this water would have been diverted to Baluchistan lakes were water becomes scarce in summers.

We had our last major flooding in 2010, lets see how the 2 democratically elected governments since then built infrastructure to deal with the upcoming floods. Not so well I presume.

20% of the country was submerged a few years ago due to heavy rains, dam deficit and Indians opening up dams without notice. All of these issues can be solved if there only was will-power in Islamabad.

you can write about UPPER punjab all you'd like. Your finance kingpin investigator mistakenly recited the same 2 years before it was ever known about and you're still doing the same today. i wonder why mr finance wasn't going after his own at the time if he claims to dislike "the bad people" so much. neither of which applies, it shows where you're at.
