LAHORE: Grievances redressed

LAHORE, Aug 9: The zakat and usher department and the Benevolent Fund Board have redressed the grievances of complainants on the Punjab Ombudsman’s orders.

Almas Parveen said that a monthly aid from the benevolent fund was allowed to her and she received the same from Jan 1999 to March 2001 thereafter it was stopped. She approached the authorities concerned but to no avail.

Ms Dawa Jan said that she applied for a grant out of the benevolent fund for the marriage of her daughter but the authorities concerned had not proceeded the case so far.

Abdul Ghaffar said that he applied to the chairman of the zakat committee of Chak 216 P (Rahim Yar Khan) for financial assistance out of zakat fund. His request was acceded to by the authorities concerned and a cheque amounting to Rs25,000 was issued to him. Later, the cheque was cancelled by the Rahim Yar Khan zakat committee chairman.

The ombudsman directed the Benevolent Fund Board and the Rahim Yar Khan zakat committee chairman to look into the matter who reported to him that the complainants’ grievances had been redressed.
