High Court Advocate Amna Ali has sent a legal notice to SP special branch Arsala Saleem for saluting Maryam Nawaz as she arrived at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) to appear before the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Sharif family's business dealings abroad.

The legal notice questions the capacity in which SP Saleem saluted Maryam Nawaz, as the latter does not hold any government office.

"For being a civil servant who serves as an SP in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police, fetching salary from the taxpayers' money, please explain the reason for your action which [caused] agony and mental shock to the public at large," reads the legal notice.

The notice further demands an apology from SP Saleem in front of media personnel along with an explanation within 15 days. The legal notice threatens to move ahead with legal proceedings against the ICT police officer.

The complainant goes on to question how a salute to an accused person should not be considered illegal.
