PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Mehsud Scouts of the Frontier Corps seized a cache of missiles, rockets, launchers, anti-tank mines and ammunition on Bara-Jamrud road on Thursday night, an FC official told Dawn on Friday.

The official from Fort Salop in Khyber Agency, some 20 kilometres from here, on phone said that the arms were concealed under tea sacks aboard a goods truck (PRE 8866).

He said that the cache was brought in to Pakistan from Afghanistan to smuggle it down country.

The seizure of arms included two surface-to-air missiles, Russian-made 105mm rocket launchers, 107mm rockets, 82mm mortar shells, 80mm anti-tank rockets, anti-tank mines and rocket- propelled grenades, he said and added that the smugglers escaped after a brief exchange of fire.

The FC also seized 632 kilogramme hashish and 896 kilogramme green tea.

The political administration of the Khyber Agency has registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
