Published August 9, 2003

KARACHI, Aug 8: The Fisheries Department has started progeniture of Palla fish in view of the discharge of water downstream Indus, director general of Fisheries said here on Friday.

In order to create awareness on saving the fish, the DG has pointed out that the stocks of the precious fish species had depleted considerably. However, he said, in the wake of sufficient rains and heavy discharge of freshwater downstream Indus, Palla had started returning for breeding purpose.

The official has asked the fisherman not to fix their nets at the mouth of the creek which could hinder Palla’s return to the river water.—APP
